It is designed as a companion document to the Supervised Visitation Network (SVN) Standards, Code of Ethics, and Guidelines for Best Practice (currently in process at this writing). As with the Standards, the training modules are designed to give evidence to the broad range of member practices. Developing such a training manual is a difficult task in that the training modules must reflect and accommodate the depth and breadth of regional practices. Moreover, the training modules must meet the SVN Standards, yet be flexible enough to allow each program to develop and implement programs that meet and reflect community needs and standards.

Item #2A Understanding The SVN Code of Ethics

A professional code of ethics is an essential component
in the growth of any organization, especially
organizations that provide services directly to
the public. Ethical codes establish a way of being
or behaving in a manner that is consistent with the
organizational values as determined by the membership.
This training module is intended to inform
the membership about the mission and values of
the Supervised Visitation Network and encourage
an acceptable standard of practice for the membership,
which promotes excellence in service.

In the traditional model of supervised visitation,
the term "intervention" - although not defined in
the SVN Standards - generally means to interrupt
the parent-child interaction during the visit whenever
behavior occurs (e.g., a parent statement or
physical action) that threatens the health, safety
or welfare of the child and/or the staff supervising
the visit.

The purpose of this module is to focus on
Standard 16.0 Interventions and Ending a Visit Or
Exchange In Progress to help providers understand
their role and responsibility in ensuring the safety of
participants.

Item #3 Child Sexual Abuse Referrals: A Curriculum for Supervised Visitation Providers

By M. Sharon Maxwell, Ph.D, and Karen Oehme, J.D.
This comprehensive training manual was created by the Florida Clearinghouse on Supervised Visitation with a grant from the Task Force on Children's Justice, Florida Department of Children and Families.

It was developed in response to requests from supervised visitation service providers in Florida and elsewhere for more intensive training on how best to provide appropriate services to children who have been sexually abused by a parent or caregiver. The intent is that supervised visitation providers can conduct training in their own programs using the Train the Trainer Guidelines included at the beginning of each chapter.

Although written specifically for Florida's judges in consideration of the relevant Florida statutes and rules of court, this comprehensive manual produced by the Florida Clearinghouse on Supervised Visitation contains information that will be useful to judges in any state. It can also help supervised visitation providers understand legal positions and procedures. We recommend this manual for all SV providers and urge them to share the information with their local courts.
